Seth Godin posted this morning about The end of misogyny? and had this to say:
“It’s sort of astonishing… in my lifetime, we’ve seen the end of public (but certainly not private) attacks on people because of race or mainstream religion (fringe beliefs and sexual orientation are still fair game, apparently)… but trying to humiliate half the population because of their gender seems just fine.”
- Seth Godin
It looks kind of like pimping for Robert Greenwald and a website called “Fox News Porn” which is selling a video of racy, sexy videos from segments shown on the Fox News channel.

Pimping?
By what definition of the word was my post pimping?
A pimp, of course, is the ultimate misogynist.
Some of the functions and activities of the pimp include these:
Recruiting
Training
Marketing
Managing
Protecting
Controlling
Abusing
Exploiting
The idea for the use of the word pimping in this case was triggered by the content of your post and of the Robert Greenwald video.
Considering who you are, it should be an easy jump to the conclusion that the word is used in the sense or “marketing.”
In addition, the term has a newer context as seen here on Wikepedia:
“In the first years of the 21st century, however, a new meaning of the word has emerged in the form of a transitive verb which means “to decorate” or “to gussy.” The instigator for this new definition stems from Pimp My Ride, an MTV television show.”
For many years, I have had this opinion that perhaps H. L. Mencken was the ultimate misogynist.
I considered Seth’s mention of the Fox News “Porn” site more as evidence to support his point more than as “pimping” for the site. Anyway, it’s looking like Greenwald’s site needs little help in spreading through the internet.
That said, I also didn’t think that what might have been a dashed off use of the word “pimping” was a tremendous affront.
Yes, you are probably right. Seth’s point is well taken. I did not really catch the tone from his short comment. If he was really upset, that did not come through to me.
Robert Greenwald made the video. That seems to me to be every bit as exploitative as the original airing of such content on Fox News.
Promoting Robert Greenwald’s efforts seems to me to be contrary to what Seth was trying to say in his original article.
